Liliana Gilberto is a nurse practitioner postgraduate fellow at our California Avenue clinic. After completing her undergraduate education at Framingham State University and her master’s and doctorate degrees at the University of Massachusetts, she worked at Greater Lawrence Family Health Center and Community Health Connections (two FQHCs in Massachusetts). There, she fell in love with the opportunity of improving and maintaining the health of individuals and families of Latino immigrants and other historically marginalized populations such as homeless individuals. However, soon thereafter, Liliana realized that primary care providers are routinely confronted with patients’ behavioral disorders, and they must respond to this need. This brought her to work in the psychiatric field during the last four years. Such experience enabled her to continue working towards preventing stigmatization and treating her patients holistically, because the body follows the mind. Esperanza’s care for its patients and staff, as well as Chicago’s underserved communities attracted Liliana to start her nurse practitioner fellowship at Esperanza. She is passionate about healthy cooking and loves everything related to the fall and holiday seasons. In her free time, she enjoys working out, reading, watching documentaries, and spending time with her favorite people.
